Niger Delta Avengers Should Be Treated as Terrorists - Prominent Politician Advises Buhari

A popular northern politician and scholar has advised Buhari to adopt his 'crush mentality' in dealing with the Niger Delta militants who have been sabotaging the country's economy.

Dr. Junaid Mohammed

Dr. Junaid Mohammed who is a politician based in Kano state as well as the former adviser to ex President Shehu Shagari, has stirred the calm waters over the issue of Niger Delta militancy in Nigeria which has roared its ugly head.

Mohammed advised Buhari who is currently adopting a diplomatic process of dealing with the Niger Delta Avengers and other groups to treat them like the Boko Haram insurgents who are currently being routed heartlessly by the Nigerian army.

Mohammed, who was a member of the last National Conference, told Vanguard in an interview on Sunday that it was wrong for the Buhari administration to try to appease the Niger Delta militants while still confronting a similar terrorist group in another part of the country.

Mohammed suggested that engaging the militants in a military warfare will go a long way in curbing armed battles and lawlessness in the Nigerian polity.

“Why is Buhari tackling Boko Haram with the military might and going behind to negotiate with Niger Delta militants? he asked.

“If Buhari is not careful with the NDA he will plunge the country into another civil war because he does not have the mandate of the law to negotiate with terrorists.

“No forward-looking nation negotiates with terrorists. And I should say that if he does not have the political will to deal with the militants, he should step aside. Governance does not have room for destroyers.
