In a press statement issued on Wednesday by Mr. Emma Powerful, the Media and Publicity Officer of  the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), the group has alleged a plot by some federal agencies to kill the detained Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu, through a manipulated auto crash.

The Pro-Bifra group declared that Kanu would no longer appear in court for trial until there are strong indications that his safety is guaranteed, adding that the alleged plot to kill Kanu was being hatched by security operatives in collaboration with some prison officials.

The spokesman said that those behind the plot want to execute it when Kanu who is detained in Kuje Prison, Abuja, is being driven to court.

"IPOB uncovered plots by the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Federal Government to eliminate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB through road accident on his way to the court.

"The plan was perfected by the DSS and the Federal Government and will be executed by the prison authorities. They want to claim it is a criminal attack on the way," he said.

The group also said that the recent allegation by the DSS that members of IPOB were planning to invade the Kuje Prison to abduct Kanu was a false alarm and a smokescreen to deceive the gullible minds, adding that the group had not changed its non-violent stance in the struggle for self-rule and that it has no plans to invade any government facility because 'we are not a terrorist organisation.'

The pro-Biafra group, therefore, called on the international community to hold Nigeria responsible should any harm befall Kanu either in the prison or on his way to the court.

"The IPOB worldwide family are calling the international community, Amnesty International and all relevant human rights organisations to take note and caution the Federal Government and the DSS, if anything happens to Kanu, we will not take it easy," Powerful said.

The group said that Kanu would not go to court again because of security concerns until his safety is guaranteed."For this reason, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not go to court again because his life is in danger," the statement said.
